Tachometers – Tachometers are sensors used to measure the roational speed of a disk, shaft etc. The device generally outputs the value to a display unit in terms of RPM (Rotations Per Minute). The sensed information can also be send in the form of an electric signal to a controller system like PLC which can make changes to the system based on it or to an HMI for the operator to observe. Modern digital tachometers will display the info on an LCD screen and will usually have in built calibration and tare features along with unit conversion and data storage. Newer non contact tachometers utilise optical information sensed by the device to accurately calculate the rotational speed.
